Rihen’s work is always this beautiful intersection of poetry and prose, and this rendition of depression is no different. What I love about this piece is the tiny ray of hope that lights up the poem from the inside – it’s a nice turn at the end that leaves us wanting just a little bit more. Fun fact – Rihen is actually an engineer with the soul of a poet!

Prometheus – By Rihen Christian

While I stood on the shores of the Arabian Sea, I saw seagulls singing – perhaps the song of the Sirens. They were enticing, yet mournful, filling the air with macabre jubilations.

As if in a dark trance, I walked in the Sea. Deeper, deeper. Further on. I was a grain of sand slipping slowly with each wave. Hopelessly removed from control–

Just a speck of dust in the infinity. Why this hopelessness? Why do I not have wings? Why can I not swim? Why can I not sing the song of the Sirens?

As I waded in deeper, the sea overwhelmed me. I punched the waters but couldn’t land them, just got swept away. Lonely and insignificant, chained to my fates.

I remember the starry nights that comforted me and the moon that guided my paths, now just faint memories in the cold. But rumour has it that pearls can only be found at the bottom of the sea.
